Units of Somalia’s Custodial Corps whose primary duty is to guard prisons were deployed in the frontlines in Middle Shabelle region in a bid to reinforce the ongoing fight against the al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist group of Al-Shabab.

Chief of Somalia’s Custodial Corps, Mahad Abdirahman Adan, before the units were deployed to the frontlines, delivered an encouraging speech.

He urged them to diligently discharge their national duties and to bravely fight against the militant group of Al-Shabab once they are stationed in the frontlines.

He reiterated that part of their responsibility is to be part of the ongoing efforts to maintain security although their primary duty was to guard the prisons.

Security experts are worried over the deployment of units of Somalia’s Custodial Corps to the frontlines.

They argued that these units are not specially trained when it comes to carrying out anti-terrorism operations.

Some of the custodial corps who spoke to the local media, said that they remain ready to execute their national duties that they took the oath in order to defend the country.

They added that they are committed to go to the frontlines in order to join the ongoing fight against Al-Shabab fighters.

Somalia’s military trained specially by U.S. and Turkey are currently taking part the ongoing fight against the Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-shabab which is underway in Middle Shabelle region.
