On Thursday, Somaliland’s President, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, has departed to the United States of America on a landmark trip, and he is expected to make a short stopover in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), an official statement from the President’s Spokesman, Mr. Hussein Adan Egge Deyr, said. He further disclosed that this is the first trip that incumbent Somaliland President, Mr. Irro has travelled to the U.S. since assuming the office of the presidency in 2024.
The visit aims to bolster the strategic partnership between Somaliland and the U.S., specifically cooperating in the areas of security, economy, expediting investments and speeding up ongoing diplomatic efforts in securing international recognition from the world, the statement said.
During Irro’s stay in the U.S., he is expected to hold high-level meetings with U.S. top officials and other significant figures, where he will discuss with them on issues relating to the interests and aspirations of Somaliland, the president’s spokesman said.
He went on to say that the trip is part of the ongoing Somaliland efforts which is interested in strengthening its engagement and bolstering cooperation with the globe.
The visit embarked by Somaliland’s President to the U.S. comes at a time when Somaliland is pursuing diplomatic efforts in search of international recognition and ways to further strengthen its relations with other countries and international organizations.
