Ethiopia’s Air Force Conducts Airstrikes against Alshabab in Middle Shabelle region

Ethiopia’s Air Force has carried out coordinated airstrikes targeting Alshabab hideouts in Middle Shabelle region.

This was confirmed by the Somali Federal Gov’t. The minister in charge of defense, Hon. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, has revealed that Ethiopia’s Air Force conducted coordinated airstrikes as the militant group tightens its grip on towns recently recaptured from Somali Army.

The Minister said that the airstrikes targeted Alshabab fighters hideouts although he did not specify the exact number of casualties inflicted on Alshabab in the wake of the airstrike.

Speaking to state-run media, the defense minister has said that such operations cannot be carried out without the consent of the Somali Federal Gov’

The minister revealed that Ethiopia and Somalia have security agreement specially the fight against al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Alshabab.

He added that the Ankara agreement stipulates that the two countries cooperate on security matters.

Somalia recently resolved a row with Ethiopia and allowed Ethiopia to be part of troop contributing countries in the new African Union Mission in Somali (AUSSOM).

This is the first time Ethiopian Air Force conducted airstrikes in Middle Shabelle region and is s a step taken in the right direction when it comes to the fight against Alshabab.
