The Somali National Army—specifically units from the Gorgor Commandos and Special Forces—announced that they have seized control of the Geel-gub area and key bases in the Middle Shabelle region during an operation against Al-Shabaab.

The operation involved the 18th Brigade of the Gorgor Commandos, the 12th Brigade of the Special Forces, and the 3rd Brigade of the Somali National Army.

The forces stated that the areas they captured had previously been controlled by Al-Shabaab, who had maintained a presence there for some time.

This operation is part of a broader military campaign Somali forces are conducting across parts of Middle Shabelle, aimed at pushing back Al-Shabaab and expanding the territory under government control.

Security officials stated that the operation also seeks to restore security and government administration, ensuring that residents in these areas gain stability and access to government services.

In recent times, the Somali National Army has intensified operations against Al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia, particularly in regions where the group still maintains bases and staging grounds for attacks.
