Turkey’s Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, has announced the conclusion of his tenure in Mogadishu, stating that he is moving to a new post in Skopje, North Macedonia.
Aktaş, who has served as ambassador to Somalia since March 2024, expressed that he considered it a great honor to work on strengthening relations between the two nations. He noted that the partnership between Turkey and Somalia extends beyond mutual interests, impacting both the region and the international community.
The ambassador highlighted that during his tenure, Turkey and Somalia collaborated in areas such as the economy, security, education, healthcare, humanitarian aid, and technical capacity building.
He also pointed to Turkish investments in Somalia, infrastructure development, and the growth of the blue economy and hydrocarbon sectors, noting that these initiatives help expand opportunities for Somali youth to advance their futures.
The ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Somali people for the warm welcome extended to him, his family, and the embassy staff, stating that they always felt at home while in the country. Alper Aktaş expressed confidence that Somalia would capitalize on its economic potential and continue its progress and democratic process.
Noting the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Somalia and Turkey, he stated that cooperation between the two nations would strengthen and that Turkey would continue to support Somalia’s territorial integrity, security, and stability.
