The Somali National Army (SNA), in close collaboration with Jubaland security forces, is currently carrying out large-scale operations in the Lower and Middle Jubba regions, according to a statement released by the defense ministry on Tuesday. These operations are focused on the districts of Jilib, Hagar, and Afmadow, as ground forces cautiously advance against the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group, Al-Shabab. The Somali troops have successfully driven out Al-Shabab from several areas, including Waraha Qalley, Farshabeel, Jigees, Qaawiley, and Weelmaarow. The ground assaults were supported by airstrikes carried out by international partners who support the Somali government in its fight against terrorism. These airstrikes targeted Al-Shabab fighters who were hiding in the liberated areas. The defense ministry’s statement also reported that the operations resulted in a heavy defeat for Al-Shabab, with 27 fighters successfully eliminated, including senior members who were crucial to the group’s operations. The Somali troops also seized weapons, including BKM, RPG, and AK 47s, as well as landmines intended to harm the local population. The SNA will continue its anti-Al-Shabab operations in order to ensure the security, stability, and safety of the people living in Jubaland.
