U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) stated that on September 4, it conducted an airstrike in Somalia targeting Al-Shabaab militants. AFRICOM stated that the airstrike was carried out in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, targeting a location approximately 175 kilometers west of Mogadishu.

The U.S. command noted that AFRICOM, the Federal Government of Somalia, and the Somali Armed Forces continue operations to degrade Al-Shabaab’s ability to threaten U.S. forces and citizens abroad.

AFRICOM did not disclose details regarding the specific units, aircraft, or weaponry used in the strike, stating that such information would not be released due to operational security and secrecy.

This airstrike comes as U.S. and Somali forces have intensified operations against Al-Shabaab in parts of the country.

AFRICOM also stated that another airstrike against Al-Shabaab took place on September 5, 2026, though details regarding the location and resulting casualties were not disclosed in the statement.
