Bashaqle, located between Adale and Warsheikh in the Middle Shabelle region, is reportedly being transformed into a strategic military zone, with security infrastructure being constructed in the area in connection with the Turkish Space Facility being developed on the outskirts of Warsheikh.

Construction of the facility is reported to have begun in late 2025, with the first phase of the project expected to be completed in 2027. Meanwhile, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has publicly stated that Somalia will play a role in the implementation of the base.

Reports indicate that security infrastructure at Bashaqle may include facilities to support ground forces, airfields, and maritime military infrastructure. This development comes as Turkiye strengthens its security and defense cooperation with Somalia.

It has been reported that Turkish Forces have expanded their presence into parts of the Middle Shabelle region, with the primary objectives cited as supporting Somali forces and securing the Space Facility.

Somalia’s Gorgor forces, which have received training and support from Turkiye, are also being prepared for operations in strategic locations within the Middle Shabelle region; they play a role in removing Al-Shabaab from areas in the region.

Bashaqle is expected to become a key hub within the security framework surrounding Turkiye’s Space Facility, potentially strengthening the military presence of both Somalia and Turkey along the country’s central coast.

The project could also provide Somalia with the opportunity to join the ranks of the African nations possessing space related infrastructure.
