A member of Somalia’s Lower House of Parliament, Hon. Abdilahi Hashi Abiib, has become the first Somali lawmaker to be kicked out of parliament after he was accused of failing to attend parliament sessions.
Hashi was expelled on Saturday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. SHeikh Mohamed Nur alias Madobe.
He said that Mr. Abiib has failed to attend two consecutive sessions of Somalia’s Lower House of Parliament.
The Speaker stripped him of his status because of continued absence.
The MP is said to be a vocal critic to the Somali administration headed by the incumbent president Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud.
He accused the current leadership in Somalia of corruption and sent reports to int’l organizations.
An official letter issued from the Speaker of parliament office stated that Abiib lost his parliament seat of the House of Representatives in accordance with Article 59, paragraph (d) and Article 8, paragraph (4) of the House of Representatives Bylaws.
The parliament speaker has ordered the vacant seat, identified as HOP#201, be filled immediately. Mr. Abiib hails from Somaliland.
