Clashes between two clan militias erupted today in the city of Badhan, Sanaag region, with both sides employing various types of heavy weaponry, as evidenced by footage from the scene circulated on social media.
 Most business activities and public movement in Badhan have come to a standstill; militias from the two clans have blocked sections of the new main road recently constructed by the Puntland government in the city center. Witnesses at medical facilities have confirmed that the fighting has resulted in casualties, including both deaths and injuries.
 The conflict between these neighboring clans—previously confined to rural areas—has now spread to major urban centers. The Puntland government and traditional elders have failed to secure a lasting resolution to this hostile situation, which has already claimed the lives of more than 60 people from both sides.
 Puntland recently issued a statement declaring that the government would take action against clan militias to enforce disarmament and prevent the inter-clan fighting that has become increasingly prevalent in both the urban and rural areas of Puntland in recent years. Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, currently in Carmo—the gateway to the Sanaag region—has concluded training for thousands of Puntland security force members; meanwhile, it remains unknown what measures the government will take regarding the conflict between the two neighboring clans.
