Somalia: Body Scanners dubbed PISCES installed in Adden Adde Int’l Airport

Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) has implemented new security body scanners which was installed in Adden Adde Int’l Airport in Mogadishu. The new body scanners dubbed PISCES has the capability to detect individuals who committed crimes in their home countries like terrorists who are trying to enter Somalia. This was disclosed by the Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA), Hon. Mustafe Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow.

He told that the new system dubbed PISCES is applied by more than 20 countries in the world. He revealed that the new body scanners will facilitate Somalia to be in line with int’l systems in the world. He told the Somali BBC World Services that the program is part of the efforts undertaken by the Immigration Agency which is intended to provide quality services and set up the systems applied by the world.

The U.S. Government has assisted Somalia to acquire PISCES scanners. Experts from the U.S. came to Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital and trained officers of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) who will operate with the new body scanners. The new body scanners have been installed in the airport in Mogadishu which is currently operational in Adden Adde Airport.

He said: “The body scanners have been installed and is under test. It has been successful so far. It allows Somalia to be part of the Immigration in the world. Somalia will have access to the information of passengers who are entering or leaving the country and to put trust on the Immigration Agency (ICA), and to be in line with other immigration agencies in the world.”

He said that Somalia will have close cooperation with governments who are part of PISCES and Int’l Police dubbed Interpol which allows that Somalia will not be a safe haven to terrorists and criminals.

He said: “We will know everyone. It will be hard that individuals who are linked to Al-Qeada to hide like Al-Shabab or extremist groups or those who commit crimes in the world.”

The Internal Security Minister, Abdilahi Sheikh Ismail Fartag who attended the launching ceremony of PISCES told that the new system will enhance the capability of the government to monitor the movement of the people, combating migration, crimes related with it, and it will play a huge role in the maintenance of the national security.
