The Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry of Somalia’s Federal Government, Mr. Mohamud Abdullahi Ahmed known as “Abuukaate” has tendered his official resignation on Thursday. He conveyed an open letter to the Prime Minister of Somalia’s Federal Government, announcing officially that he quit his ministerial position. The resignation letter dated August, 13, 2026, Mr. Abuukaate clearly stated that he reached the decision after he considered carefully on the responsibility and the role he held. The Deputy Minister has not explicitly stated the reason for announcing his resignation. He expressed deep appreciation to the Somali government officials for granting the opportunity in order to serve the Somali people. He held the position of Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry for quite some time as he participated in meetings and activities related to trade development and the relationship between the government and business community. He was appointed to the position in March 2025, and has a good rapport with the President of Somalia’s Federal Government, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Mr. Mohamud Abuukaate is a Member of the Lower House of Parliament-known as the House of the People. He was re-elected to the House of Parliament in 2022 for a second term. He is a politician elected from Hirshabelle constituencies, and hails from Beledweyne, the provincial capital of the Hiiraan region.
