Forces of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in close collaboration with international partners carried out a planned security airstrike that took place in the Tardo area in the Hiiraan region.
The airstrike successfully eliminated three senior Al-Shabab commanders and five of their bodyguards, while four others suffered catastrophic injuries. The airstrike specifically targeted a location where four senior Al-Shabab commanders were present.
Those three senior Al-Shabab commanders who were successfully eliminated were identified as Saed Xuuriye—who was responsible for Al-SHabab militants for the extortion of illegal money in the eastern part of the Hiiraan region, Hamse Bakool,-Al-Shabab commander responsible in what the group calls the militias that operate in the Hiiraan region, and Osman-who was also a commander.
The airstrike successfully eliminated five Al-Shabab members who were the security guards of the three top brass Al-Shabab commanders killed in the airstrike. Four others were seriously injured in the airstrike including a senior commander named Khalid Irro.
In the target area, a senior Al-Shabab commander named Abdilkarim Yusuf Ahmed escaped unharmed and was responsible for Al-Shabab for the Tardo area.
The operation is part of the ongoing efforts which are aimed at targeting Al-Shabab leadership, degrading the operational capabilities and the execution capabilities of the terrorist attacks conducted by Al-Shabab group.
