Local forces in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region have killed two leaders of the Al-Shabaab militant group, the defence ministry said.
The ministry said the two commanders were killed during an operation in the region, in which local forces also targeted other members of the group.
According to the ministry, the two men played key roles in Al-Shabaab’s activities in Middle Shabelle.
The ministry did not provide further details on the location of the operation or say how many other militants were killed. It said local forces would continue operations against Al-Shabaab in the region.
Middle Shabelle is among several parts of Somalia where government and local forces are conducting military operations aimed at pushing Al-Shabaab out of areas where the group remains active.
