The Somali National Army together with the local defense forces foiled Al-Shabab’s attempts to retake the Ali Ganey settlement in the eastern part of the Hiiraan region.
Al-Shabab fighters reportedly part of the group that recently seized the Teedaan area on the 2nd of this month headed towards Ali Ganey on Friday while its main objective was to retake the settlement where there was no presence of the Somali forces.
Reports indicate that local defense forces known as Ma’awisley in the Hiiraan region twice ambushed Al-Shabab militants before the subsequent arrival of Somali troops led by the Commander of the Somali National Army, particularly the 27th Division, Colonel Ali Agey.
The Somali Forces are now fully present in the Ali Ganey area. The areas where people have sought refuge after recently fleeing the fighting that took place earlier this month in the territory between the towns of Mahaas and Matabaan.
Many families fleeing the fighting in the areas of Sullaay, Xasan Raqay, Sulmo, Xagar, and the Teedaan zone have sought safety in the areas of Ali Ganey and Hees.
These families have not returned to their homes, as fear still persists in the areas between Mahaas and Teedaan. Somali Forces are preparing to retake the strategic area of Teedaan.
