The U.S. Government has officially appointed Ruth Anne Stevens-Klitz as the Deputy Chief of Mission of U.S. Embassy in Somalia, noting that she will commence operations directly in Mogadishu this August 2026.
Stevens-Klitz, a long-serving U.S. diplomat, has over 25 years of experience, having held various positions in countries across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Before her appointment to Somalia, she was the adviser of social affairs of the U.S. embassy in Senegal and Guinea-Bissau.
She also served in Ethiopia, Egypt, Morocco, Germany, Israel, and Armenia while she held other positions in Washington.
Her diplomatic experience focuses specifically on public relations, building partnerships with host governments, international organizations, the business community and civil society, as well as expanding the exchange of information and ideas.
She also focused on working with youth and emerging leaders, fostering economic and business opportunities, preserving heritage, culture, and supporting press freedom.
Stevens-Klitz earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from U.S. Army College. The diplomat also speaks French, German, Russian, and Arabic.
