The resignation came after the government of Somaliland permitted to the holding of an extraordinary session requested by the members of Berbera Local Councilors who are willing to elect a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Reports indicate that Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Dable, who has the backing of the majority of Berbera councilors is the current front runner for the position of the Mayor of Berbera while Mr. Yacquub is poised to contest for the position of the Deputy Mayor of Berbera.
Speaking on his resignation announcement, Idin explicitly stated that during his tenure, he elevated the city of Berbera to a better state than it was previously.

The ex-Mayor of Berbera, Mr. Idin, and his Deputy Mayor, expressed deep appreciation to Berbera residents and the Local Council, stating that they are elated in serving their tenure for the public.
Former Mayor of Berbera, Abdishakur Idin, held the position since 2012 after he participated in the local council elections where he was successfully elected as a member.
Conversely, Idin’s administration was criticized on issues relating to the poor electricity services. Some of the people criticized him for failing to implement cheap and quality electricity services in the city.
During his tenure, he is widely remembered for enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Berbera, constructing and repairing roads and implementing other projects that modernized the city. It is expected that Berbera local council will hold a session in the days to come to elect new leadership for the administration in the city.
