Reports from Hiiraan province say that the Somali National Army (SNA) along with Ma’awisley local defense forces who are stationed in areas in Moqokori settlement besieged Al-Shabab fighters who recently moved into El-Qoohle settlement.
The Somali troops backed by the local forces have strongly resisted the attacks planned and launched by AL-Shabab. The allied forces engaged fierce fighting with the militant group of Al-Shabab in areas nearby Moqokori district.
The governor of Tardo settlement, Osman Hussein Gure who spoke to Radio Kulmiye revealed that the allied troops surrounded Al-Shabab fighters who moved into El-Qoohle settlement. He pointed out that the troops are conducting operations which are aimed to eliminate Al-Shabab fighters from the area.
He said: “The Somali National Army (SNA) and the local defense forces have reinforced their presence and surrounded Al-Shabab fighters from four directions in El-Qoohle settlement which is under Moqokori district. They are stationed in all roads leading to the settlement.”
He revealed that reinforcement troops have arrived in the settlement and Al-Shabab fighters have regrouped in the East of the settlement where operations to flush them out are underway. He said: “They have retreated. They went to the East. We have received military reinforcements. We have surrounded them.”
