The incumbent President of the Somali Federal Government, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is currently visiting Galmudug regional state. The Somali President began his visit yesterday afternoon in the city of Dhuusamareeb, the administrative seat of Galmudug state. He was warmly received by Galmudug regional President, Ahmed Abdi Kaariye known as Qorqor, members of his cabinet, Galmudug regional parliament members, officials from the Somali Federal Government and various sects from the community.
Last night, the Somali President participated in an event held in Dhuusamareeb, which was aimed at marking the establishment anniversary of Galmudug state.
Reports indicate the President will proceed from Dhuusamareeb to Xananbuur area in the northern Galguduud region in order to attend a ceremony marking the completion of training for troops who have recently been undergoing instruction at the Xananbuur Military Training School.
In a statement released by Villa Somalia stated, “The President’s visit to Galmudug state region focuses on reinforcing government efforts to build and enhance the capacity of the Armed Forces; the President will attend a ceremony marking the completion of training units of the Somali National Army.”
The report added, “Furthermore, during his stay in Galmudug, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will inaugurate development projects implemented within the regional state-initiatives that are part of plans to accelerate public service delivery and development of the country’s economic and social infrastructure. The President will also hold meetings with various segments of Galmudug society to listen to their views, governance-related needs, and regarding development, security, state-building, and the country’s future.”
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s itinerary includes a planned visit to the city of Galkayo, the capital of Mudug region, despite Puntland having expressed objections to the planned trip.
Accompanying President Hassan Sheikh on his trip to Galmudug are the Minister of Defense, Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi, the Army Chief, General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, the Commander of the Logistics Command of the National Army, General Mohamed Mohamud Hassan (Garabey), Members of the Federal Parliament, and other officials.
