The Somali Salvation Foruml announced on Friday that they have postponed the planned protests in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, which were scheduled for May 16, 2026. They stated that they want to give a chance to the ongoing political talks between the Somali Federal Government and some opposition leaders. In a statement, the forum explained that the decision to defer the demonstrations is intended to support the efforts to find a political resolution to the current standoff in elections and the transition period. The Somali Salvation Forum also emphasized that the peaceful protests were carefully planned, but they are now prioritizing the ongoing talks as they are crucial for maintaining stability and remaining vigilant about political tensions. The talks between government officials and opposition members are focusing on issues such as elections, completing the constitution, and addressing security concerns amidst the political tension in the country. The Forum also disclosed that a new date for the peaceful protests will be announced later, depending on the outcome of the ongoing talks. This decision comes during a time when the international community is spearheading talks to reduce the escalating political tensions in Somalia, particularly regarding elections and the administration of the country.
