Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) held a breakfast meeting in Washington, D.C., with members of the U.S. Congress and ambassadors from the international community based in the U.S. capital.
 According to a statement from the Office of the Somaliland Presidential Spokesperson, the meeting addressed the strengthening of relations between Somaliland and the United States, strategic cooperation, regional security and stability, as well as trade and investment matters.
The press release also noted that the meeting focused on Somaliland’s role regarding security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden—vital corridors for trade and regional security.
The Spokesperson’s office stated that President Irro emphasized the importance of Somaliland serving as a “reliable strategic partner,” describing the country as a peaceful and stable nation with functioning government institutions.
Additionally, the report indicates that the President discussed Somaliland’s geopolitical significance and its location in the Horn of Africa, particularly concerning security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. This meeting comes at a time when the Somaliland government is pursuing diplomatic efforts to strengthen its relations with the United States and other members of the international community.
