KISMAYO—A delegation comprising representatives from the embassies of Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the European Union, and various international organizations visited Kismayo—the administrative capital of Jubbaland—to inaugurate and inspect development projects implemented in the district.
The delegation was welcomed in Kismayo by the Jubbaland Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Ogle, accompanied by the Ministry’s Director General. The delegation also included officials from UNDP, UNICEF, UN-Habitat, and the Somalia Joint Fund, who arrived to inspect development projects in Kismayo district that are part of broader efforts to improve social services and critical infrastructure.
First, the Jubbaland Minister of Interior, representatives from the embassies and international agencies, and the Kismayo local government administration jointly inaugurated a rainwater drainage channel constructed at the intersection of Dahabshiil and Hormuud in the Calanley neighborhood.
Additionally, the delegation inspected the Ganaane Primary and Secondary School, which has undergone renovation. The school administration briefed the delegation on the project’s activities and the facilities established at the educational center.
Meanwhile, the delegation visited the Jubbaland Traditional Elders’ Conflict Resolution Center, where they met with traditional elders and various segments of the community. The traditional elders briefed the delegation on their role in fostering community peace, as well as the traditional methods employed to resolve disputes and strengthen social cohesion.
The delegation also held face-to-face meetings with various segments of society, including traditional leaders and elders. Finally, the Jubbaland Minister of Interior, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Ogle, along with other officials, saw off the delegation—comprising representatives from various countries and international organizations—in the city of Kismayo.
For their part, the delegation members thanked the Jubbaland administration and the people of Kismayo for the warm welcome; they commended the development projects implemented in the district and called for the expansion and renewal of ongoing development initiatives in the city.
