Reports from the Gedo region indicate that Abdirashid Janan is traveling to the district of Balad-Hawo; the purpose of his trip is reportedly to finalize and implement the agreement reached in Nairobi between the relevant political and security factions.
According to well-informed sources, Janan is expected to play a role in the plan to transfer the “UK Camp”—where troops are currently stationed—while the committee tasked with overseeing the handover of the town and military facilities is also reportedly en route to Balad-Hawo.
The reports further state that Abdirashid Janan will prepare the weaponry and troops to be handed over to the Jubbaland administration; the troops stationed at the UK Camp are expected to receive a limited payment—allocated as salary—sourced from one of Somalia’s neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the 43rd Division of the Somali National Army, Rashid Bohol, was reportedly barred from visiting the UK-run military camp after officials from the Federal Government of Somalia blocked his access.
According to informed sources, these officials had previously been responsible for providing salaries, promotions, and supplies to the troops; this involvement is said to be a factor in the decision to block the travel of the 43rd Division Commander, who is currently based in the Doolow district.
Reports also indicate that the Federal Government of Somalia is planning a leadership reshuffle within the police and intelligence agencies in the Gedo region.
Informed sources suggest that two officers have been selected to assume these roles, although their identities have not yet been officially announced.
These plans coincide with ongoing efforts to implement the Nairobi Agreement, particularly regarding security in the Gedo region, military matters, and the administration of Jubbaland.
