The Ministry of Defense of Somalia announced on Friday that government troops had successfully eliminated 50 members of Al-Shabaab fighters and armed militia men in a planned operation on the outskirts of Baidoa. According to the statement, the operation was in response to an ambush attack on government troops who were maintaining security in the area the previous morning. The government troops also dismantled weapons and military equipment that were being used to organize attacks against both government troops and civilians. The defense ministry accused armed militia men loyal to the ousted former Southwest State President, Mr. Abdiasis Laftagaren, of fighting alongside Al Shabaab fighters. This collaboration between the two groups was evident in the claim of responsibility for the attack by Al-Shabaab. The ministry confirmed that the ambush attack was carried out by armed militia loyal to Abdiasis Lafatagaren, who colluded with Al-Shabaab. This highlights the danger posed by these armed militia groups, who are essentially operating as a wing of the terrorist organization and threatening the national security and stability of Southwest State. The Somali government has stated that it will not tolerate armed groups using security for personal gain and has pledged to take legal action against individuals who support or collude with Al-Shabaab. The ministry also expressed condolences to the families of the soldiers who were killed in the ambush attack, honoring them as brave men who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation.
