Somalia’s Ministry of Defense Wednesday announced that Danab Commandos of the Somali National Army, in collaboration with Jubaland security forces, carried out a planned security operation in Baghdad area, which lies close to Badhadhe district in Lower Jubba region.
According to the statement from the ministry of defense, the operation targeted bases where Al-Shabab militants were stationed.
The Somali government further confirmed that it successfully eliminated 2 senior Al-Shabab commanders and 14 fighters during the operation.
The statement went on to say that the Somali troops successfully captured two Al-Shabab commanders alive during the planned operation.
In conclusion, the ministry further said that the operation will continue in order to weaken Al-Shababa’s operational capabilities and ensure the security of areas under the control of the militant group of Al-Shabab.
