11 Al-Shabab militants were successfully eliminated by Kenya’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) following an operation based on intelligence conducted in a base where the militant group had an area located on the border between Kenya and Somalia.
A statement issued by Kenya’s security officers said that the operation was successfully carried out by special units trained for the prevention of terrorist attacks, and supported by drones, targeting at least 30 Al-Shabab militants who were planning to conduct terrorist attacks in the Mandera region.
During the operation, 11 Al-Shabab fighters were killed while seven others suffered catastrophic injuries. Kenya’s security forces confiscated three PKM and 409 ammunition. Al-Shabab fighters who survived the operation retreated back towards the Somali border.
