The First Degree Court of the Armed Forces in Somalia is currently holding a hearing for a case involving two Ethiopian nationals who are accused of having ties to the Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group, Al-Shabab. The two suspects, Mr. Hamza Ibrahim Ali Abuu Irshad and Nasri Abdirahman Ali Abuu Safiya, were born in Harar and are fluent in the Somali language. They were apprehended during a security operation carried out by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in Baidoa, the provincial capital of the Bay region, according to security officials. The military prosecutors have submitted a lawsuit against the two suspects, stating that they are charged with participating in skirmishes, receiving training, and illegally entering Somalia. The prosecutors are requesting that the appropriate punishment be given to the suspects, in order to serve as a warning to others who may be considering joining Al-Shabab. However, the lawyer defending the accused has argued that the charges against his clients are serious and unproven. He has asked the court to send the two men back to their home country of Ethiopia, so that they can be reunited with their families. The Armed Forces Court has stated that it is currently reviewing the arguments presented by both the prosecutors and the defense. The final verdict will be announced once the court has completed its review of the case.
