The Somali government troops conducted a planned operation in Hanti Wadaag area in Lower Shabelle region, successfully eliminating two members of Al-Shabab, a statement issued by the defense ministry of Somalia said. In the statement, the operation targeted Al-shabab leader named, Abuu Abdalla, who was involved in organizing and carrying out insecurity acts against civilians for a long time. In addition, the Somali troops said that this Al-Shabab leader had played a significant role in planning and coordinating Al-Shabab activities. The bodyguard of the eliminated Al-Shabab leader had also been killed.
This operation is part of the constant efforts in targeting leaders and fighters of Al-Shabab, in order to degrade and thwart their attacks against the Somali people, said a statement from the ministry of defense of Somalia. The Somali forces will continue the operations against Al-shabab, while strengthening efforts in eradicating the group and maintaining the security and the stability in the country, a statement from the ministry further stated. On the other hand, the Somali forces carried out a planned operation against Al-Shabab group in Jabad Carbeyd and Dabagaab area in Middle Shabelle province. The operation was conducted by the 195 battalion of the 19th brigade-Gorgor Command unit, according to a statement. The operation’s purpose was to strengthen the security and to prevent attacks carried out by Al-Shabab in parts of the region. The operation is part of the constant efforts in pursuing the fleeing Al-Shabab elements, who were accused of disrupting the peace and stability in the country, Somali officers told. The Somali forces have recently intensified their military operations that are underway in Middle Shabelle region, targeting areas where armed militant groups are hiding.
