Somali Federal Gov’t has officially banned on the entry, transit and exit of Taiwan passport holders, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan.

The ban that the Somali Federal Gov’t put in place is in line with UN Resolution although Taiwan accused the Somali Federal Gov’t ban on Taiwanese passport entry a pressure from China.

The decision comes at a time when Taiwan is consolidating diplomatic ties with Somaliland which seceded from Somalia in 1991 but it is not internationally recognized.

Taiwan Foreign Affairs Ministry stated that Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority issued a notification on the 29th of April, in which it notified that from the 30th of April, Taiwanese passport holders will not be allowed entry into Somalia.

The statement from Taiwan foreign ministry said that the ministry expressed compliant over the step that Somalia took which pose a real risk to the freedom and the security of Taiwanese nationals.

The statement went on to say that the Ministry has requested from Somalia authority to immediately reverse the decision.

The Somali Federal Gov’t has not responded to the request pertaining the ban that the Somali authority placed on Taiwanese passport holders.

Taiwan said that the notification was sent to airline companies in Somalia in order to comply with the UN resolution number 275, which allowed in 1971 to expel Taiwan from UN membership and allowed China to replace in consideration of One China Policy.

Taiwan and the U.S. argue that the UN Resolution did not tell the future of Taiwan, while China argues that it is fully in control of the Taiwan which is democratically governed.
