Somali troops backed by Ma’awisley forces are still battling with the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab.
The Somali National Army (SNA) on Tuesday engaged in a fierce fighting with the militant group of Al-shabab after the militant group briefly took control of Aboorey settlement on last Sunday.
The Somali army dislodged the militant group from the settlement three years ago.
The Somali troops and Ma’awisley forces had the upper hand regarding the armed confrontations between the Somali National Army (SNA) and Al-Shabab militants.
Reports say that the Somali Army besieged Al-Shabab militants who are still stationed in Aboorey settlement.
Reports further indicate that the Somali National Army (SNA), Special units of NISA soldiers and Ma’awisley blocked all roads from the militant group of Al-Shabab in the settlement.
Commanders leading the operation to flush out the militants say that the fighters are fighting in trenches that they dug while others are fighting using a mosque in the settlement as a shield.
Al-Shabab fighters in Aboorey settlement were faced with uncertainty who are besieged by the Somali army.
It is not yet clear how long it will take the militant group to continue to fight with the Somali Army.
The Somali troops intention is that Al-Shabab fighter will stop the fighting once they run out of ammunitions.
It is also expected that the number of wounded Al-Shabab fighters in the clashes will increase which will bring an end to their resistance.
The spokesman of Somalia’s ministry of defense said that there is no possibility that Al-Shabab fighters in Aboorey settlement to get reinforcements from outside.
The Somali army will continue the operation on Friday which is aimed to restore security and law and order back to Aboorey settlement.
Al-Shabab’s primary mission was to first move into Yasooman settlement so as to take control of the road connecting Moqokori and Maxaas which the road leads to Galguduuud and also connects to Dac, Waxbo and Ceelbuur.
Reports further confirm that most AL-Shabab fighters who moved into Aboorey settlement are originally from Oromo ethnicity.
