The first Deputy Prime Minister of the Somali Federal Gov’t, Salah Ahmed Jama on Wednesday has officially opened a national conference on environment and climate change that was held in Mogadishu. The meeting gave a special priority when it comes to promoting awareness raising to environment issues and ways to mitigate the impact of climate change which is increasing.
Hon. Salah delivered a speech at the conference and underlined the conservation of environment is a national responsibility that is on the shoulders of all Somali community. He confirmed that the conservation of natural resources is a pivotal importance when it comes to the progress and salvation of the coming generations.
He emphasized the need to work together, and to unite the establishment of lasting and green environment in order Somalia to be part of the countries that respond to the challenges of the climate change. He urged that all sects of the community to play a role when it comes to the ongoing efforts.
The Deputy Prime Minister has pointed out the climate change is a problem that generally impacted the world particularly vulnerable countries that lack the powers which are necessary to adopt the situation of climate change. He indicated that Somalia is now feeling the impact of the mounting pressure from the climate change.
He underscored that all gov’t agencies, civil society and other interested stakeholders to closely work in order to get tangible plans which are aimed to prevent the negative affect of climate change and to work together in saving the environment.
The conference was an opportunity to discuss ways of finding solutions to environmental challenges and climate through lasting and national cooperation in order to find a stable future which is based on the protection of the environment and the adaptation of the climate change.
