Somali Troops and allies retake a key settlement from Al-Shabab militants

Government troops and allied militias in Somalia on Tuesday have recaptured a strategic settlement that al-Shabab armed group briefly seized yesterday. Fierce fighting broke out after government troops launched a large scale assault on Al-Shabab fighters who sneaked into Aboorey settlement yesterday.

The Somali Gov’t has confirmed in a statement that the Somali National Army (SNA), backed by local clan forces have successfully driven out Al-Shabab fighters from the settlement. The gov’t said further in the statement that its troops have chased Al-Shabab remnants from the area.

The gov’t stated that operations underway in the outskirts of Ruun-Nirgod, Guulane and El Ali Ahmed districts in Middle Shabelle province. It is confirmed that fierce armed confrontations underway in between Buulo-Burde and Jalalaqsi towns in Hiiraan province.

The gov’t has revealed that the operations which was carefully planned and executed. The statement went on to say that Al-Shabab militants was utterly defeated in these operations. The operations ongoing in South and Central Somalia are aimed to flush out Al-Shabab militants from the country and to liberate areas under their control in Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.

Al-shabab militants have recently surged its attacks in settlements and districts in Middle Shabelle province. It seems now that they relocated to Hiiraan province after Local clan forces known as Ma’awisley were deployed to Middle Shabelle province in order to liberate the militant group from the districts.
