The Somali Federal government and members of the international community based in Mogadishu held a meeting today to address important issues, including the expiration of the term in office for government institutions, particularly the Federal Parliament. The meeting was attended by the Interior Minister, Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali (known as Hoosh), the Justice Minister, Mr. Hassan Ma’alin, and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ali Mohamed Omar (known as Ali Bal’ad). They were joined by ambassadors and representatives from embassies based in Mogadishu, as well as international agencies operating in Somalia. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the current situation in Somalia, the country’s progress in achieving its national agendas, and state-building efforts. The ministers informed the international representatives that there is one year remaining in the term of government institutions and that the newly approved constitution is now in effect. They also urged the international community to participate in the upcoming presidential elections in regional states where the term of office has already expired. Today, April 14, 2026, marks the official end of the term in office for the Federal Parliament. Opposition politicians and regional states, such as Puntland and Jubaland, have sent a message to the international community, informing them of the parliament’s term expiration and calling for diplomatic pressure to be placed on the Somali Federal Government.
