EDITORIAL: Mistrust Between the Opposition and the Government Rages On

The National Electoral Commission announced that the parliamentary and council elections has been postponed to March of 2019. This announcement comes at a very crucial moment the opposition and the government have stopped working together. This comes following the disagreement about the National electoral commission the body entitled by law to for see elections in the country. The two opposition parties UCID and Wadani wanted the current commissioners to be fired and appointment of new commissioner initiated.

From then on the two opposition bosses Mr.Faisal Ali Warabe of UCID and Mr.Abdirahman Irro of Wadani have been exchanging venomous utterances with the president on airwaves.

The lack of cooperation between the opposition and the government is threatening the implementations of many worthwhile public projects which have stalled since the parties do not see eye to eye.

There is no time in Somaliland history that the nation needs unity utmost as the wind of change blowing across the Horn of Africa need a firm political solution for Somaliland because the speed of change in the region cannot be underestimated and could averse Somaliland negatively.

The president and the two opposition chiefs need unity at this critical time any political uncertainty could procure political disaster to Somaliland. At no time does Somaliland need unity than this juncture.

The political parties need to unite their ideologies so that the country could move forward. Somaliland has succeeded where other have failed because of reaching consensus in every decisive issue, hence it high time president Bihi and his opposition comrades to but their personal differences for the sake of Somaliland.

The head of state H.E Musa Bihi Abdi and UCID and Wadani bosses need to stop the political bickering and move Somaliland forward.
