Mogadishu, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) At least 12 members of the Somali terrorist group Al Shabab were killed and several injured in an air strike in the south of the country, the government reported today.

The operation carried out on Wednesday in the city of Sakow, central region of Jubba, aimed to eliminate several leaders of this fundamentalist organization, including its former head in the nearby city of Kismayo, Hassan Yacqub, who was wounded, added the deputy Information Minister, Adam Isak Ali.

The state news agency quoted the official’s statement saying that his international partners were the ones who carried out ‘the successful night air strike in Sakow,’ the largest al-Shabab stronghold in the country, where some 37 members of that organization were gathered.

According to the Hiiraan Online site, three children died in the destruction of a school in the action, done by a single plane which fired four projectiles and so far was not identified.

The ship bombed the educational center and a hospital in Sakow, a region regularly attacked by the United States and Kenya, the publication assured.

The website referred in that sense to the presence and military activity in the country of U.S. forces, and to the troops and means provided by Nairobi as part of the African Union Mission here.
