The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said on Friday that its forces successfully detained at least 9 Al-Shabab operatives who are suspected of planning to carry out acts of insecurity in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu and its surrounding areas.
In a statement issued by NISA, the individuals who were arrested had been staying secretly in the districts of Garasbaalay and Kahda as well as in neighborhoods within Eelasha Biyaha area.
NISA said that four of them were belonging to a network who were planning to carry out attacks targeting civilians and intended to destabilize and disrupt the security in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
NISA further added that its forces were closely monitoring the activities as well as the plans of the group.
The agency went on to say that it conducted investigations as well as gathering intelligence reports which successfully led to the apprehension of the individuals at the locations where they were present.
It further disclosed that interrogations are underway regarding those who were detained and once investigations are wrapped up, they will be handed over to the justice institutions in order to bring them before the court.
In the statement, the agency commended the public for sharing information to the security agency regarding the security threats.
NISA repeated its call once again that the public must submit information regarding Al-Shabab and ISIS activities in the country.
