It is reported that the African Union Peace Keeping Mission in Somalia needs an additional 8, 000 soldiers in order to take part the ongoing war against the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab.

Burundi is expected to withdraw its troops from Somalia.

Delegates from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Egypt, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, African Union, and organizations held a meeting in Uganda for the past week.

They discussed the security situation in Somalia and the progress so far made when it comes to the ongoing operations in Somalia.

Officers said that lack of enough troops brought about the security vulnerabilities which led the militant group of Al-Shabab to re-emerge and seize many settlements in Lower and Middle Shabelle provinces.

Security officers pointed out that 8, 000 soldiers should be added to the African Union Peace keeping troops in Somalia in order to do something about the current security in Somalia and to prevent setbacks when it comes to the achievements that have been reached.

The officers warned that the exit of Burundian troops without getting a replacement will create security gaps that would worsen the security situation in Somalia.

Diplomatic sources told France-Press that the exit of Burundian troops from Somalia has something to do with a fallout between the government of Burundi and Somali Federal Gov’t.
