The Somali Federal Gov’t expelled Swedish consul and a senior adviser who is in charge the development and cooperation, Ms. Anna Saleem Hogberg from the country.
This was reported by Global Bar Magazine and sourced senior Somali officers who requested anonymity.
The move has not been confirmed by Somali and Swedish government and is seen as a dispute that would damage the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The newspaper which is based in Stockholm stated that the decision which made Ms. Hogberg as persona non grata was reached in March, 2025.
The expulsion of the Swedish diplomat is blamed the worsening ties between the diplomat and the office of Somalia’s Prime Minister.
The newspaper cited that the diplomat was accused of damaging the credibility of the Somali Gov’t.
An official statement has not been issued from the offices in Mogadishu and Stockholm.
Sweden’s News Agency (TT) contacted the ministry of foreign affairs of Sweden and Swedish Int’l Cooperation Agency, which Ms. Hogberg heads a crucial project declined to give full details about the issue.
Sweden provided 63 million dollars fund to the Somali gov’t to implement projects in the areas of peace-building, democracy, human rights, health, climate change resilience and strengthening the gov’t institutions.
Ms. Hogberg is the senior adviser and the head of the development cooperation of the Swedish embassy in Somalia although the embassy is based in Nairobi.
