Two members of Al-Shabaab surrender to the Somali National Army.

Two members belonging to the al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group, Al-Shabab surrendered to the Somali National Army, specifically the 54th Unit, 5th Brigade and the 27th Division, that is based in Waabweyn area in Hiiraan region, as reported by the Radio of the Somali National Army.

The two members who surrendered are identified as Ibrahim Mohamud Mohamed and Abdikarim Amiin Nuur.

The Commander of the 54th Unit, and the 5th Brigade, First Lieutenant, Hussein Hassan Shirar presented the two Al-Shabab defectors to the media, noting that they have surrendered voluntarily, stating further that they are in the safe hands of the Somali National Army.

Military officials have not so far provided further details pertaining to the situation of the two Al-Shabab defectors, and the subsequent steps that will be taken.

However, the incident coincided at a time when the Somali troops have intensified operations against the armed militant group, Al-Shabab, that have a strong presence in the Hiiraan province.

It is not the first time that youngsters belonging to Al-Shabab militants have surrendered themselves to the Somali National Army.

They asserted that they could no longer endure the appalling living conditions within the group, and the airstrikes carried out by the government’s international partners against Al-Shabab’s positions in South and Central Somalia.
