On Monday, Somaliland government has ordered all undocumented foreign nationals to immediately leave its territory within 10 days, describing this move as strengthening the security and the stability in Somaliland.
The State Minister of Interior, Mr. Abdirashid Mohamed Ahmed known as Magalo has instructed security agencies to cautiously implement and enforce the order against illegal aliens in Somaliland.
The State Minister said, āThe security agencies are instructed to organize undocumented foreign nationals so that they can leave the country within 10 days. I am instructing the public to report anyone they suspect to the security agencies. We are protecting our security, it is everyoneās responsibility.ā
He added that Somaliland has received international attention, and many investors are expected to arrive, which he said makes it important to strengthen the security and maintain stability.
However, he highlighted that the public should not take the law into their hands, and that no one can ask questions or take action against foreign nationals, as handling illegal foreign nationals is the responsibility of the government and immigration agencies.
The Minister of State has reiterated that foreign nationals who legally stay in Somaliland are safe and secure, while those who are wanted to leave will leave safely.
Somaliland issued an ultimatum several times, calling for illegal foreign nationals to leave its country.
Some of these people have been given permits to work and live in Somaliland at different times, while others have been required to conform their stay to immigration laws, and some have been deported.
