Reports from Dhuusamareeb indicate that a preliminary understanding was reached in negotiations that lasted for several days between President of Galmudug regional state in Somalia, Mr. Ahmed Abdi Kaariye known as Qor Qor, and the Director of the National Security and Intelligence Agency (NISA), Mr. Mahad Salad.
According to available information, the meetings held in four rounds were focused on how to reach an agreement on the Galmudug election process, particularly the plan based on a one-person one-vote system.
Sources close to the talks say that the two sides have agreed on important points to continue the election process, with the expectation that the Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Hamze Abdi Barre, will reach Dhuusmareeb to complete the remaining points and announce an official agreement.
Conversely, the Vice President of Galmudug, Mr. Ali Dahir Eid, commended President Qor Qor on his Facebook page, describing the decisions he took as “brave” and enhancing the reputation and the unity of Galmudug.
He also said that the transition to a one-person one-vote system will give the people the opportunity to participate directly in deciding the political future.
He went on to say that the government he was a part of has achieved significant progress in the past six years, although these achievements were political cooperation and stability in Galmudug.
MP Abdisamad Ma’alin Hassan from Somalia’s Federal Parliament, congratulated President Ahmed Abdi Kaariye known as Qor Qor, praising his role in building the state of Galmudug.
The MP also welcomed Liban Ahmed Hassan as the new leader of Galmudug, wishing him success and becoming a successful leader.
The MP’s statement brought out that the government of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has finally succeeded that Liban must be the candidate of the Social Justice Party, and has been chosen to participate in the elections and will replace President Qor Qor.
