The Somali government on Thursday announced that at least 27 Al-Shabab members have been successfully eliminated in airstrikes that took place in settlements in Lower Shabelle region. The airstrikes were conducted on July 1st and 2nd according to the statement. In a statement released by the Ministry of Defense, it further disclosed that the Somali National Army in collaboration with the international partners carried out the airstrikes targeting areas where Al-Shabab members were stationed in Tawakal, Nuun Garre, and Ugunji settlements. The statement further added that several Al-Shabab members were injured in the airstrikes. Vehicles, weapons, military equipment and bases that Al-Shabab militants used in organizing and conducting the attacks were destroyed. The statement from the defense ministry commended the international partners that support Somalia in the fight against Al-Shabab. Furthermore, the defense ministry and the Somali Military Command expressed their commitment in the continuation of the military operations against the group.
