The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced that its forces dismantled Al-Shabaab networks that were reportedly planning to embed themselves within parts of the capital, Mogadishu, and its outskirts.

A press release issued by NISA stated that the operation resulted in the capture of 11 members from various networks; according to the agency, these individuals were being prepared to carry out acts that would threaten security and endanger the public.

NISA reported that these planned operations were conducted in the districts of Daarusalaam, Garasbaaley, Kaxda, Dayniile, and Afgooye. During the operation, forces seized weapons and other materials intended—according to the agency—for use in acts that compromise security.

The agency indicated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to thwart Al-Shabaab’s plots aimed at undermining the security of Mogadishu and the Somali people.
