The Minister of Finance of Somalia’s Federal Government, Mr. Bihi Iman Egge, is currently in Washington DC leading a delegation to attend high-level meetings known as “Spring Meetings” with officials from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF). The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the development of Somalia’s economy and strengthen bilateral cooperation. During the meeting in Washington, the finance minister held a productive meeting with Mr. Ndiame Diop, the World Bank Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, to discuss crucial issues concerning the country’s economy. These issues included the impact of the complicated global situation, such as security matters, geopolitics, and climate change, on Somalia’s trade. Both sides agreed that these issues have a direct impact on vulnerable countries like Somalia and pledged to strengthen cooperation to mitigate their effects. The finance minister also highlighted the efforts of the Somali Federal Government to increase internal revenues, improve financial management, and promote economic growth for lasting progress. He expressed gratitude for the consistent support provided by the World Bank, particularly in terms of investment in development projects and the reorganization of financial institutions. The World Bank has been closely working with the Somali Federal Government and has played a significant role in implementing development projects in the country, with some already underway.
