Three Somali men appeared before a court in Wajir town in North east of Kenya who are suspected of the brutal murder of 17 years-old girl who was killed in the town for the past weeks. Ga’ala Adan was one of the wife of the three men who were arrested in connection of the killing of the young girl. The killing caused panic among the local residents in Wajir town as reports indicate that she was set on fire. The three men who were detained last week after the murder was committed, appeared before the court in Wajir in order to be interrogated and questioned them about the alleged murder. The court hearing was postponed for 14 days after lawyers defendants made the request so as to accomplish the investigations underway. The three men will be held in police custody.
Some of the local residents in Wajir town and human rights organizations said that an action must be taken in line with the laws pertaining to those who are found guilty of committing the crime. It is not yet confirmed that the three men who appeared before the court were responsible for the brutal murder of the teenage girl but the court verdict will prove which is expected to be announced within a matter of two weeks. Amina Abdinor is the mother of the teenage girl and she told the Somali BBC that 60 years old man married her daughter as the two sides agreed to the marriage proposal. The mother said that the teenage girl is her first born child and was residing in Dhaxagleey refugee camp in Kenya.
She was studying and living with her family. The mother narrated that her family did not have full knowledge of the man who married her daughter. The teenage girl’s teacher was the intermediary who arranged and proposed the marriage for the man. The man was given the young girl as her father agreed to the marriage proposal. The wedding took place at end of Feb. this year and she was taken to the man’s residence in Waara which is several km away from Habasweyn district in Wajir town.
From the beginning, the young girl informed her mother that the man beats her. Even she told her mother that he intends to kill her and her life was in great risk. The mother by the name of Amina Abdinor further recounted to the Somali BBC that her daughter called her several times and she told her that they intend to murder her. The murder was committed on 22 March, 2025. Amina further said that her daughter called her while she was with relatives and alerted that she will be killed. She gave the final call to her uncle and was subsequently murdered. She was buried in Dhaxagleey refugee camp. She recounted that a a rope was tied on her hands and legs and she was set on fire. The family suspect that her husband is the prime suspect of the brutal murder of her wife.
