The Deputy President of Somaliland on yesterday chaired the 21st Cabinet Meeting which was held in the presidential palace.
Issues that were high on the agenda of the meeting were:-
- Security and the country’s stability
The Minister responsible for interior briefed on the general situation of the country. He told the cabinet that the overall security of the country is maintained.
He disclosed that there are minor incidents that take place within the country including car accidents which claim lives and cause injuries.
- Economic situation of the country
The Finance Development Minister also gave a report to the cabinet ministers on the current economic situation and the collection of taxes which underway smoothly particularly Goods Service Tax (GST). He informed the ministers that there is an economic growth on day by day basis. He also said that the ministry of finance together with the minerals and energy ministry put in place a way to monitor the revenues generated from the country’s resources in order to keep track the revenues earned from the minerals in Somaliland.
- Hajj and Pilgrimage issues
The Minister responsible for endowment and religious affairs briefed Hajj and Pilgrimage are currently going on well in the country. He told that there are challenges pertaining to the Hajj quota. The minister apprised of the cabinet that the ministry is currently busy with plans to facilitate Somaliland gov’t to administer the Hajj and Pilgrimage issues.
- Livestock Export
The Deputy Minister for livestock and Rural Development briefed on the ministers the smooth underway of livestock export particularly it is underway in livestock markets in Buroa and Hargeisa.
- Preparations of the upcoming 2025 National Exams
The Education minister briefed on the cabinet the final preparations for the upcoming 2025 National Exams particularly grade 8 and high schools.
He did not announce a fixed date for conducting the national exams in nationwide.
He said that the ministry conducted awareness raising campaign to discourage from the students when it comes to cheating.
He revealed that cheating poses a risk to the quality of Somaliland education and kills student confidence.
He further disclosed that there is a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to cheating.
He called on the ministry of endowment and religious affairs to work with the education ministry on the awareness raising campaign which is aimed to eradicate cheating in Somaliland.
- Vaccination of Children
The Minister of health briefed on the ministers the ongoing efforts regarding the vaccination of young children. He told that there is a vaccination drive which is underway in the country including measles, polio and pneumonia. He said that the inoculation drive is smoothly underway in Somaliland. He appealed to the ministries of education, information, endowment and religious affairs minister to assist to raise awareness on the benefits of the inoculation for children’s’ growth and hygiene.
Finally, the Vice President urged all ministries to discharge their national duties.
