The Somali Federal Government has called on all member countries of the Arab League not to allow their lands, ports, companies and their financial systems to be used for anything that facilitates relations or investment with Somaliland.

The State Minister of foreign affairs, Mr. Ali Mohamed Omar known as Ali Bal’ad made the call during the opening of the Arab League council meeting held in Amman, Jordan, according to Dawan Africa Media.

The Minister has disclosed that Somalia is deeply concerned about the diplomatic activities and international relations that Somaliland is conducting, while insisting on that Somaliland is an integral part of Somalia, and that no foreign entity is not entitled to deal with Somaliland privately.

The Minister stated, “The government of Somalia respectfully requests all Arab countries to ensure that their land is not used for financing, facilitating, legalizing or normalizing anything related to this separatist region in northwest.”

Minister Ali Bal’ad went on to say that this issue affects the principle of preserving the territorial integrity of the Arab Countries, noting that any legalization or recognition of a separatist movement should be prevented.”

He added that Somalia does not want a crisis or confrontation, but it has the right to defend its independence, unity and internationally recognized borders.

Somalia’s call comes as Somaliland’s efforts to expand its foreign relations, particularly with Somaliland’s relations with Israel are intensifying.
