Somalia’s Federal Gov’t on Sunday deployed units of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) to the frontlines in central Somalia after completing anti terrorism training. The troops left Mogadishu and reached Buulo Burde and Jalalaqsi were operations to flush out al-shabab militants are underway. The soldiers were given advanced training on counterterrorism tactics. They joined troops supported by local militia fighters known as Ma’awisley who are engaged in the operations which are aimed at liberating Al-shabab from the region. It is expected that NISA units will inject a new blood to the troops who are fighting against Al shabab in Hiiran region. NISA units are well-trained, well equipped and have armored vehicles. They established bases in Buulo Burde according to reports. The goal for deploying the troops is to conduct an operation in Jiinka district which is located on Shabelle river bank where al-shabab remnants are regrouping. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who bode farewell to the units, said that NISA soldiers will play a huge role when it comes to destroying al-shabab camps where their leaders are hiding. Mr. Hassan told that the Turkish security experts conducted the training whereby the soldiers received specially trained anti-terrorism tactics.
