Reports from North eastern region in Kenya confirm that the militant group of Al-Shabab released at least five traditional elders who were abducted from El-Wak district in Mandera county in Feb. this year.
The traditional elders went missing after suspected Al-Shabab militants ambushed a vehicle that the elders were on board and were on their way to El-Wak town.
The ambush which led the abduction of the elders occurred in between Bamba Owla and Ires Suki.
The elders were willing to meet with the President of Kenya, William Ruto who paid a visit to North eastern province in Kenya.
The Mandera South Sub County Police Commissioner, Julius Njeru said that the traditional elders were taken from Wargaduud and were on their way to El-Wak town when suspected Al-Shabab militants ambushed them.
It is not known the reason the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab released the traditional elders.
However, the efforts of the local elders and the intellectuals hailing from the district secured the release of the kidnapped elders.
They succeeded that the elders regained their freedom and released from captivity.
Kenyan media reported that the militant group of Al-Shabab requested a ransom which is worth of 7 million Kenyan Shillings in order to release the abducted elders.
It is clear if the militant group of Al-Shabab took the ransom.
