The Somali National Army (SNA), backed by local Clan Ma’awsiley forces on Monday have seized Ruun-nirgood district from Al-Shabab militants in Middle Shabelle province
The Somali troops launched an attack against the militant group of Al-Shabab stationed in the strategic town of Ruun-nirgood.
According to reports, the troops dismantled Al-Shabab bases with in the town.
The Somali troops previously took control of these strategic areas, but Al-Shabab took over after the troop’s withdrawal.
Tension is running high and there is a movement of troops where operations to flush out Al-Shabab militants are underway in many parts of Middle Shabelle province.
The capture of Ruun-nirgood comes after the Somali gov’t intensified its operations in Middle Shabelle province in order to prevent the resurgence of Al-Shabab in the region.
The liberation of Ruun-nirgod means that the war with Al-Shabab has entered a new stage and is a huge victory for the Somali troops and its allied militia fighters.
Somalia’s army chief, the chairman of the armed forces, the director general of the health ministry and other Hirshabelle regional officials are currently in the frontline to oversee the ongoing operations against the militant group of Al-Shabab which are underway in Middle Shabelee province.
